Emerging Young Leaders Focus on Character Building 

The Emerging Young Leaders activity for November was held in the library of Lake Olympia Middle School on Saturday, November 12th from 9:30 AM-12:00 PM.  Mentor Deatrice Parsons, the Character Building AKAdemy leader, presented an interactive lesson on Appropriate Attire and Body Image. 

The presentation engaged EYL and Mu Kappa Omega mentors in candid discussions about attire for school, church, concerts, etc. Participants tested their knowledge of appropriate vs. inappropriate attire by playing an activity entitled HOT or NOT. 

Each participant was given two cards, a HOT and a NOT card, and the objective was to decide if a picture was considered appropriate (HOT) or inappropriate (NOT). Mentors Nahdra Curry and Laura Collins served as appropriate models.

For arts and crafts, each EYL mentee decorated door hangers with positive words that adequately described their personalities. Overall, the girls had a ball learning the im-portance of appropriate dress for success.
