Dear Counselor/Applicant:

Julia F. Thompson, Incorporated and the Mu Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated have scholarships available for college-bound students. Enclosed you will find a copy of the scholarship application for the 2010 school year. Students wishing to apply must meet the following guidelines:

1. Must be a graduating senior in Spring 2010
2. Must be graduating with a GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or a 4.9 on a 6.0 scale
3. Must provide evidence that they have completed a minimum 50 hours of community service
4. Must enter college by the Fall of 2010

The students are required to submit:

•  Completed online application
•  Sealed official transcript
•  Recent photograph for potential publicity purposes, and
•  150 word essay on one of the topics below:

1. If you had to grade President Obama’s first year in office, what grade would you give him and why?  Do you feel that Main Stream America would agree with your assessment?
2. What do you consider to be the single most important societal problem? Why?

A letter of recommendation from a sponsoring member of the Mu Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. should accompany applications from students not attending Fort Bend ISD schools.

A completed application consists of the online submission of a 150 word essay, recent photograph, community service documentation, and a sealed official transcript mailed to:

Transcripts must be postmarked by March 26, 2010.  Applications submitted after that date will not be considered.
